Flagler deputies arrest machete wielding attacker

A physical disturbance on Pine Circle Drive in Palm Coast was reported to Historic City News at approximately 8:35 p.m. last night, after Flagler County deputies were able to disarm an agitated 58-year-old man who had been wielding two machetes, had already wounded one of the occupants, and was carrying a razor-edged box cutter.

Upon arriving at the residence, deputies observed Mayko Rodriguez standing in the neighbor’s driveway. There were two machetes lying on the ground nearby and a yellow box cutter discovered in this right front pocket.

According to the incident report, the victim, a 39-year-old Hispanic male, was visiting his 34-year-old girlfriend at her mother’s house for dinner. As they were sitting down to eat, an argument ensued between Rodriguez and the victim.

Heated words escalated and Rodriguez went out to the garage, where he retrieved two machetes. According to witnesses, Rodriguez was yelling “I’ll kill you” and yelling other vulgar language.

A passing motorist told officers that he witnessed a man standing in the driveway “swinging two machetes around in the air and touching them together”. When Rodriguez returned to the dining room, he reportedly began swinging the machetes over his head and threatening to physically harm the victim — at one point striking him on his left arm.

The victim’s wounds were described as “non-life threatening injuries” by emergency medical personnel at the scene.

Rodriguez, who deputies said appeared to be intoxicated, was arrested and charged with two counts of Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon, then transported to the Flagler County Inmate Facility without incident.
