Fort Matanzas and Castillo de San Marcos National Monuments have informed Historic City News of the dates, times, and locations for this year’s annual summer camp program.
Park rangers, teacher-ranger, and teachers from St. Johns County, together with knowledgeable volunteers, will engage campers entering 5th and 6th grade (ages 9-11) with interactive presentations, hands-on projects, games, and living history demonstrations.
“The camps cover a variety of topics, including: Archaeology, Native Americans, Nature, Spanish Exploration, Navigation, Colonial Florida, Masonry, Spanish Military and Artillery,” said Mary Sims, Administrative Support Assistant for the National Park Service. “Students will have the opportunity to work on projects involving pottery, leatherwork, coquina, tabby, and musket drills.”

All four camps run Monday-Friday; from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm.
Space is limited. If you would like your child to participate this year, you need to sign up soon. The cost for camp is $25 per student. Registration begins on Friday, May 1st.
