A house fire reported to Historic City News Saturday evening at about 7:15 p.m., resulted in the death of one victim and severe burn injuries to another who was air-lifted to UF Health Gainesville Burn Center.
The house, located at 64 St Francis Street, is owned by Hazel and Carlton McCall whose residence address is listed as Palm Coast. The identity of the two victims was not reported.
In addition to the St Augustine Fire Department, firefighters and paramedics with St Johns County Fire Rescue responded to the scene. St Augustine Police arrived and began interviewing witnesses, according to a media release filed this morning.
The fire claimed the life of one of the occupants, however, police are still investigating to determine the cause of the blaze, so no information was released about that person.
The victim that was extracted from the residence was female, police reported. Emergency personnel began CPR and advanced life-saving assistance; stabilizing the patient for transfer.
One witness at the scene shortly after the incident occurred reported to Historic City News that there was a significant amount of damage done to the building that overlooks the Maria Sanchez Lake in Lincolnville. The witness said that quite a number of neighbors had come out of their homes to assist, if possible, and to determine exactly what had occurred.
