The St. Johns County Pet Center has informed Historic City News will be closed April 17-18 to participate in the Mega Adoption Event at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds.
St Johns County residents may claim a lost pet at the Pet Center on Friday, April 17th by calling 904.209.6190 to make an appointment. Standard business hours will resume on Tuesday, April 21st.
The Mega Adoption Event will be open 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. each day, April 17-19, and features more than 1,000 pets at a reduced adoption fee of $40, which includes spay or neuter, microchip, vaccines, and city license. There will be free parking and free admission.
More than ten groups are bringing in their adoptable dogs, cats, puppies and kittens together in one place in hopes that each one will find their forever home. On average, about 8,000 people attend these events with a mission to find their perfect pet.
On Sunday afternoon, at the end of the public event, “limited intake” shelters normally accept the remaining pets that were not adopted. This allows “open admission” shelters to gain more space and allows the sponsor, First Coast No More Homeless Pets, to further their mission to end the killing of dogs and cats in shelters who otherwise have to euthanize for space.
Since the Mega Adoption events started in 2012, they have proven to be extremely successful. To date, the events have reportedly saved the lives of 8,077 dogs and cats.
