Elizabeth Gessner, president of the Tolomato Cemetery Preservation Association, invited Historic City News readers to attend a free presentation program and book signing event being held at the cemetery on Saturday, April 18, 2015.
St Augustine architectural historian, Elsbeth “Buff” Gordon, will be at the cemetery all day to introduce and sign her new book, “Walking St. Augustine”, just published by the University Press of Florida.
“The author is generously donating all proceeds from book sales to the Tolomato Fence Fund, so book purchasers will also be helping to make St Augustine even more beautiful,” Gessner told local reporters. “Her earlier works include Florida’s Colonial Architectural Heritage, and Heart and Soul of Florida: Sacred Sites and Historical Architecture.”
Publication of the book was supported by the University of Florida, Historic St. Augustine, Inc. and the St. Augustine Foundation, Inc.
Buff Gordon will present her book at 1:00 p.m., but she’ll be at the cemetery throughout the normal cemetery Third-Saturday hours from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm, ready to sign books and talk with visitors. Tolomato Cemetery is located on Cordova Street; just south of Orange Street.
Gessner says that Walking St. Augustine tells readers about the buildings along the route and about their early inhabitants, many of whom are buried at Tolomato Cemetery. The pocket guide provides visitors with a selection of well-mapped and illustrated walking tours through the historic downtown areas of the city, according to Gessner.
