Denver Cook, representing the local non-profit “Success St. Johns, Inc.”, has invited all Historic City News readers to participate in two workshops designed to help all taxpayers better understand alternatives available to the proposed St Johns County budget.
Cook, a former candidate for St Johns County Commission, says if the fiscal challenges before the Board of County Commissioners and the St Johns County School District are not effectively resolved, the county faces significant financial shortfalls and program failures.
“In the coming years St. Johns County will face significant challenges — any of which has the potential to alter the positive direction of our community and erase previous accomplishments,” Cook told Historic City News editor Michael Gold.
If you plan to attend, the workshops are being held at the clubhouse at Coastal Oaks in Nocatee, located at 600 Bluewater Drive, Ponte Vedra Beach.
The dates, times, and topics for each workshop:
July 22 10:00-3:00
St Johns County Administrative Budget Alternatives
July 23 10:00-3:00
St Johns County School District Sales Tax Alternatives
Overcoming these challenges has been made more complicated by miscommunication between the public and government officials.
Cook told reporters that the specific goals for Success St. Johns, Inc. will be to inform and engage the stakeholders, develop coherent strategies, secure sponsorships, evaluate resistance and risk, and then to promote successful management strategies.
