A 47-year-old Oklahoma woman was arrested Friday afternoon in connection with the theft of an exotic parrot from Pet World; according to a report received by Historic City News this morning.
Video surveillance captured the woman removing a green, white-eyed, conure from its cage; an exotic parrot valued at $600. The woman walked out of the store with the bird, accompanied by a man and juvenile.
They were observed getting into a white or tan Cadillac Escalade. A description of the suspects, the bird, the vehicle, and tags, was broadcast to other officers in the area.
A witness observed the vehicle traveling southbound on US-1 and notified the Sheriff’s Office. The vehicle was followed to the Flying J truck plaza, located at I-95 and SR-206.
When deputies contacted the woman driver, they observed the stolen bird on the front seat. The woman, identified as Dawn Christine Griman, was booked into the St Johns County Jail where deputies charged her with grand theft.
The parrot was returned to the pet store located in the 3300 block of US-1 South.
Just before 5:30 p.m. this evening, Griman, whose reported address is 1530 East Nancy Drive in Ada, Oklahoma, was released from custody after posting a $2,500 appearance bond.
