Driver cited when 70-year-old bicyclist crashes into van

Historic City News was informed by the Florida Highway Patrol that, at about 10:39 a.m. this morning, a 70-year-old bicyclist in Ponte Vedra Beach crashed into the rear of a stopped Ford E-350 Econoline van.

St Johns County Fire Rescue responded to the scene and stabilized the bicycle rider, Charles W Addell, for transportation by air ambulance. Addell, who resides in Neptune Beach, was received at UF Health Jacksonville in serious condition.

The 2011 Ford E-350, driven by Jacksonville resident 39-year-old Julian Kariqi, was stopped on SR-A1A at TPC Boulevard, straddling the outside northbound travel lane and bike lane. Addell was also traveling northbound when he crashed into the van.

Even though he was not moving, because Kariqi was improperly parked, he was issued a citation in the crash.
