Frontier returns to county with flights to two major markets

Frontier Airlines begins new non-stop service to two destinations today in St. Augustine. The carrier will begin non-stop flights to Chicago-O’Hare and Philadelphia. Flights to Chicago operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays while flights to Philadelphia operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

To celebrate this new service, Frontier is offering special introductory fares as low as $20 one-way on these new routes as of today.

“We are excited to welcome Frontier back to the Northeast Florida Regional Airport,” said Edward Wuellner, Executive Director at Northeast Florida Regional Airport.  “Frontier continues to provide an ideal match for our airport and our community as it allows visitors from the northeast direct, low fare access to all that St. Augustine and the First Coast have to offer while also providing local residents with convenient access to the Philadelphia and Chicago.”

Historic City News was on hand for the arrival of the inaugural flight today at about 2:00 p.m.  Many local dignitaries were in attendance including St Augustine Mayor Nancy Shaver, VCB Director Richard Goldman, Chairman of the St Johns County Airport Authority Suzanne Green, as well as members of local radio, print, and Internet news publications.

Nationally, Frontier is adding new non-stop service in 35 markets today throughout the United States and is also re-launching service in 28 seasonal markets as well.

“Travelers between big cities have enjoyed low fares while many markets have remained overpriced and underserved,” said Daniel Shurz, a Frontier senior vice president. “Frontier’s low fares in these new markets will benefit millions of new fliers who are forced to drive because they haven’t found affordable air travel options – or they simply stay at home.”
