In case you hadn’t noticed, this is an election year

Posted on 01/02/201601/02/2016 By Historic City News

275-FINGER-TOUCH-VOTEHistoric City News readers need no reminder; but, the even-numbered years are election years, and every four years, it’s a presidential election year. Since no President can serve more than two four-year terms consecutively, the race for the White House this year is wide open.

Closer to home, all five St Johns County constitutional officers, Clerk of Court, Tax Collector, Sheriff, Property Appraiser, and Supervisor of Elections, come up for election. The Clerk of Court, Cheryl Strickland, has already resigned her seat and Sharon Outland has already announced that she will not seek reelection as Property Appraiser.

The four-year terms of three St Johns County commissioners draw to a close; James K. Johns (District 1), William “Bill” McClure (District 3), and Rachael Bennett (District 5). Two school board seats, District 2 (Tommy Allen), and District 5 (Patrick Canan), and one of the two St Johns County Court Judge seats, (Charles J. Tinlin), is also scheduled for election.

Voters located within the following Special Districts and Municipalities will decide who will serve in the following offices:

  • Anastasia Mosquito Control District – Seats 1, 3 & 5
  • St. Augustine – St. Johns County Airport Authority – Groups 4 & 5
  • St. Johns Soil & Water Conservation District – Groups 3, 4 & 5
  • St. Augustine Port, Waterway & Beach Commission – Groups 2 & 4

  • City of St. Augustine – Seats 1, 2 & 3/Mayor
