Letter to the Editor: Mark Edwards gets fundamental mobility problem

Dear Editor and Historic City News readers:

Bravo to Mobility Advisory Task Force member Mark Edwards for recommending Tuesday night that “reducing automobile volume” be a guiding principle for the task force.

Holy moly!! Common sense makes an appearance. Sadly, his suggestion was not embraced by the consultant or his fellow task force members.

That’s both unfortunate and puzzling because our fundamental “mobility” problem is too many cars in too small a space (Hey, I told you that and you didn’t have to pay me $108,000!!).

Seems like common sense that if you cannot expand your ancient streets (and we can’t), then taking actions that reduce the flow of cars coming into the city’s core makes sense.

I mean we can spend lots of time and money discussing the loveliness of bike paths and “San Marco’s” lack of identity (whatever that means), but if we’re not going to discuss volume reduction measures, then this is a big waste of time (and money).

Sort of like if your bathtub is overflowing, you probably want to consider closing the spigot. Right?
