The tourism community will hold a fund raiser to benefit Vanessa “Van” Baker, a long-time member of the tour guide family in downtown St Augustine. Historic City News readers are being invited to participate in the “Pony-Up” event, which promises to be a night of food, drink, fun and entertainment in the Colonial Quarter.
Late last year, Van suffered a debilitating stroke. She has been unable to return to work which has placed quite a burden on her and her family.
“In our close-knit community, we want to help one of our own,” said Kevin Rose from the St Augustine Pirate and Treasure Museum. “When a dear friend suffers a real life setback like this, we need everyone’s help to make this happen.”
There will be a sit-down dinner Friday, March 11th, at 33 St George Street from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available in advance-only and will be $30 each, or $50 per couple. This dinner will be capped at 100 attendees.
Afterward there will be entertainment from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. The entertainment will include a variety show until 8:00 p.m. and live music until 10:00 p.m. Dinner guests are included, or admission for the 7:00 pm event will be $5 per person, available in advance, or at the door.
More information is available on the Pony-Up facebook event page.
This is a community effort with all of us coming together for a common cause. It is not a single-attraction event.
