Poet Nance Van Winckel to read at Flagler

Historic City News has learned that Poet Nance Van Winckel will offer a reading and a craft lecture for the Flagler College Writers-in-Residence program on March 5th and 6th in the Gamache-Koger Theater.

“No Starling: Poems” is Van Winckel’s fifth and latest book of poetry. Her other titles include “Beside Ourselves” and “After A Spell,” which received the Washington State Governor’s Award for Poetry. She’s also published three books of short stories, including “Quake,” which received the 1998 Paterson Fiction Prize.

Van Winckel has received two National Endowment for the Arts Poetry Fellowships, a Pushcart Prize, Poetry Magazine’s Friends of Literature Award, two Washington State Artist Trust Awards, The Midland Authors Award and awards from the Poetry Society of America. She lives in Spokane, Wash.

The reading on March 5 is at 7 p.m.; the craft lecture on March 6 is at 5 p.m.

The Gamache-Koger Theater is located inside the Flagler College Student Center, 50 Sevilla St. These events are free and open to the public, but seating is limited and is on a first-come, first-served basis.
