A St. Johns County teenager running to her bus this morning was clipped by a passing car as she ran into a lane of traffic at the intersection of Century Boulevard and Brian Way; according to an early report received by the local news desk at Historic City News.
Rescue personnel transported 13 year-old Bailey Bushner to Flagler Hospital with a non life-threatening leg injury.
“A vehicle versus pedestrian collision can have a far worse outcome,” said Traffic Unit Deputy Kevin Nickmeyer, who responded to the call shortly after 7:00 a.m.
Witnesses told Nickmeyer that the girl, who was waiting in a car for her bus, jumped out of the car, ran between the car and a sanitation truck, then into the lane of traffic.
At the time, the driver of a vehicle, identified as 37 year-old Christopher Olaizola who lives in St. Augustine, was driving around the truck and did not see the girl.
The tire of Olaizola’s vehicle struck the girl’s foot; causing her to injure her leg.
The investigation is continuing; however, alcohol does not appear to be a factor and there are no charges expected at this time.
