Communications Manager Barbara Golden reported to Historic City News that Northeast Florida’s tourism industry is celebrating National Tourism Week May 9th through May 17th.
Called “Share A Little Sunshine”, the program was developed by VISIT FLORIDA, the state’s official tourism marketing corporation, and features video invitations that will motivate visitors to come here – and spend money.
“Share A Little Sunshine draws on two human impulses – in tough times people want to do something to help their local economies and people always want to re-connect with friends and loved ones,” said Glenn Hastings, executive director of the St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra & The Beaches Visitors and Convention Bureau. “Share A Little Sunshine gives people a fun and easy to use tool for accomplishing both.”
The program makes it easy for Floridians to send a free video invitation via email anywhere in the world. By going to www.sharealittlesunshine.org, residents can select just the right video to appeal to their friends and family. Within two minutes, the video invitation is on its way – and, hopefully, the recipients will be making plans to visit — especially, when they review the invitation’s unparalleled deals and offers on hotels, restaurants and attractions in the sender’s local area. As a thank you for participating, everyone who emails an invitation is entered into a drawing to win one of 12 weekly Florida trip giveaways.
“It’s obvious that we need more sales tax revenue to fund vital services for Floridians,” Hastings said. “This program boosts local revenues – and brings special friends and family to visit. We think it’s a win-win effort for everyone.”
The Visitors and Convention Bureau is leading the effort by emailing the link and participation instructions to its members as well as to its extensive data base of local businesses and residents.
The success of Share A Little Sunshine depends on the commitment of Florida’s residents to participate,” Hastings concluded. “Working together, we can help the state successfully overcome some serious economic challenges while bringing friends and family here to enjoy the Sunshine State.”
