Flagler College Coordinator of Public Information, Priscilla N. Proctor, invites Historic City News readers to attend the concluding presentation of the Community Lecture Series entitled, “Gandhi and Bin Laden – Religion at the Extremes”.
The presentation on Tuesday, April 12th by Dr. James Rowell, assistant professor in the Liberal Studies Department at Flagler, will wrap up the college’s 2010-2011 lecture series that features speakers who have unique perspectives on religious and cultural issues.
Tickets are $5 per person for the single lecture; active military personnel may attend at no charge.
The lecture will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the Flagler Room of the Flagler College which is located at 74 King Street in St. Augustine. Reservations are required, and can be made by calling (904) 819-6282. Space is limited.
The lecture will last approximately one hour and will be followed by a coffee and pastry reception.
Rowell holds a Ph.D. in Religious Studies from the University of Pittsburgh, an M.S. in Political Science from the University of New Hampshire, and two Bachelor’s degrees from the University of Massachusetts: one in Political Science and one in Anthropology.
Rowell is an active participant in the American Academy of Religion. His areas of primary research include the religion and politics of Mohandas Gandhi, Reinhold Nieburhr, Martin Luther King Jr. and Abdul Gahffar Khan. His work is featured in journals including Theology Today and the Journal of Conflict Studies, and he is the author of “Gandhi and Bin Laden: Religion at the Extremes,” published in 2009 by the University Press of America.
The Flagler College Community Lecture Series was established in 2007 to present the St. Augustine community with select topics from Flagler faculty and local experts.
