A $13,000 bond has been set on new charges against 25 year-old Moses James King; however, with two pending violations of probation, upon which no bond has been set, he won’t be leaving jail just yet.
King was arrested yesterday after numerous complaints from residents near his home at 505 Wilson Road in Hastings. Witnesses say King was supposedly involved in illegal drug sales, dog fighting and keeping vicious dogs on the property.
Representatives from the Sheriff’s Office, Parole and Probation and Animal Control arrived at King’s residence at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday. Because children were found to be at the home during the alleged illegal activity, the Department of Children and Families was notified.
As officers arrived at the home, King was observed to have picked up a small canvas bag and walked towards the area of three parked vehicles in the rear of the yard. According to the incident report, King attempted to toss the bag into the trees.
When deputies located the bag, they found that it contained 17.2 grams of suspected crack cocaine, packaged for sale, along with nearly 180 grams of suspected cannabis, also packaged for individual sale; along with suspected drug paraphernalia.
King was charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of probation.
Animal Control officers removed several dogs from the property along with suspected dog fighting equipment. They are continuing their investigation into the alleged dog fighting and possible animal neglect.
