Sgt. Chuck Mulligan told Historic City News local reporters this afternoon that deputies believe that suspects wanted in connection with armed robberies at two Walgreens pharmacies, one of them in St. Johns County, were located and led officers on a high-speed chase yesterday.
At 11:00 p.m. last night, the three occupants of the grey Ford pick-up truck with Utah tags were transported from Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine and booked into the St. Johns County Detention Facility.
Deputies from Flagler County followed the truck and attempted to conduct a traffic stop — however; the driver fled at a high rate of speed. Flagler deputies pursued the vehicle into St. Johns County on A1A at speeds approaching 100 m.p.h.
Deputies from both counties pursued the vehicle westbound onto SR-206 and then northbound on US-1. Because of the reckless manner in which the driver was operating the vehicle, he caused it to flip over; coming to a stop on the side of the roadway.
The truck was occupied by two men and one woman. One of the men was ejected and attempted to flee on foot; but was quickly apprehended. The other two, a man and woman, were trapped inside the vehicle.
County Rescue personnel transported the three occupants, under guard, to Flagler Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Detectives from the Holly Hill Police Department along with robbery detectives with the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office responded as they continue the investigation into the armed robberies at the Holly Hill Walgreens on Tuesday and the Walgreens Pharmacy at 116 Blackford Way, in the new Food Lion Plaza near St. Augustine Shores, on Wednesday.
