Executive Director Susan Connor announced to Historic City News that parents of children who want to participate in the “Just TRI It! Kids Triathlon” being held next month, should register, take the required swim test and experience a run-through of the race course this Sunday afternoon.
This Sunday, May 1st, is the last day of early registration. The required YMCA swim test will be offered during the clinic. The cost is $1.00 per test.
The training clinic is being held at the Solomon Calhoun Center located at 1300 Duval Street in St. Augustine. All athletes and parents are strongly encouraged to attend.
Individual information sessions will be assigned to each participant and will begin at 2 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4 p.m., each of which is followed by a run-through of the course.
Triathlon fees are $20 during early registration plus $10 for each additional child. After May 1st, registration fee increases to $30. Financial aid is available. $5 suggested donation for Tot Trot and Fun Run.
This non-competitive race for kids ages 5-12, awards medals to all participants — no matter their finishing times. Children ages 4 and under are invited to race in a 25-yard “Tot Trot” and 50-yard “Fun Run” after the triathlon. They will receive a ribbon and tee shirt.
Since 2008, the annual “Just TRI It! Kids Triathlon” has been the signature event of the Children’s Museum of St. Johns; raising funds and awareness about the importance of exercise and good nutrition for kids.
Race day, May 15, 2011, begins at 8:30 a.m. followed by the Tot Trot and Fun Run at 10:00 a.m.
