Brian Thompson, Director of Public Information reported to Historic City News that for the 15th year, Flagler College has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report in its list of America’s Best Colleges.
Flagler is ranked 11th on the 2010 list of best Southern baccalaureate colleges; it’s one of Flagler’s highest rankings since first appearing in “Best Colleges” more than a decade ago.
“I am thrilled with our ranking by U.S. News & World Report,” said William T. Abare, Jr., president of Flagler College. “It is a significant achievement for our college to be ranked among the top baccalaureate colleges in the South by this prestigious national publication.
“The ranking means a great deal to our entire college community – trustees, administrators, faculty, staff, students, parents, alumni and donors. The ranking is an indication of the College’s growing reputation. More importantly, it is an affirmation of our commitment to provide our students with an exceptional educational experience.”
U.S. News’ annual publication organizes colleges and universities under different categories, including region and type of education offered. The rankings are largely based on statistics such as average graduation rates, student/faculty ratios, acceptance rates, average alumni giving, SAT scores and more. Peer assessment surveys are also considered when calculating the rankings.
U.S. News also highlighted Flagler in the book’s list of A+ Schools for B Students. The list is comprised of “first-rate colleges with strong reputations that aren’t as selective as the top dogs.”
As a baccalaureate college, Flagler is considered an institution with a focus on undergraduate education that offers a range of degree programs in the liberal arts and professional fields.
