Laurie Sanderson reported to Historic City News that the short merge lane onto the eastbound temporary Bridge of Lions from northbound Avenida Menendez will be closed beginning this Sunday night, October 4th.
The merge lane will remain closed for approximately 4-6 weeks according to original construction plans.
Motorists coming from northbound Avenida Menendez or from eastbound King Street will still be able to access the temporary bridge at the adjacent traffic signal of Cathedral Street and Avenida Menendez.
The closure is necessary to reconstruct the roadway approach to the rehabilitated Bridge of Lions.
The Bridge of Lions Rehabilitation project, funded by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), began in February 2005. Completion of the rehabilitated bridge is expected near the end of 2009 or early 2010 and will be followed by removal of the temporary bridge.
