County staff attends Atlanta conference

From September 23rd to 26th, Historic City News learned that St. Johns County Land Resource Coordinator Amy Gilboy Meide attended the “Breaking the Color Barrier in the Great American Outdoors” conference in Atlanta.

Amy was one of 40 Fellows across the US who was selected to receive a $10,000 grant from the National Audubon Society for a community action project. The grant also paid for Amy to attend the conference last month.

The “Breaking the Color Barrier in the Great American Outdoors” conference was reported as a ground breaking event to showcase the broad diversity among American activists committed to protecting the environment, conserving natural treasures, and performing extraordinary feats of personal accomplishment in the “great outdoors”.

County Administrator Michael Wanchick wrote “Americans of every heritage and ethnicity are rising to their personal best as they embrace the challenge of protecting the environment and follow the call of the wild outdoors.”
