One shot in suspected drug-related burglary

Flagler County Sheriff’s detectives have informed Historic City News that they filed charges against two of the three people who were involved in the burglary of an occupied Palm Coast home yesterday morning that sent one of the defendants to the hospital with a gunshot wound.

Deputies responded to a home at 25A Brunswick Lane around 10:21 a.m. following a report of a burglary in progress. The complainant, 24 year-old Daniel Floyd, told deputies that three men kicked in his front door, held him at gunpoint and went through the house looking for his roommate.

The three burglars tried to run out of the house when they discovered that the roommate was not at home.

At that moment, Floyd said that he armed himself and a sheriff’s spokesperson said Floyd shot one of the three fleeing robbers in the back of the head. Charges are pending against Floyd as the investigation continues.

The victim fell onto the lawn while the other two robbers fled.

Emergency medical personnel airlifted the shooting victim to Halifax Medical Center where he was treated and returned to the custody of Flagler County deputies. He was later transported to Florida Hospital Flagler for further treatment.

Deputies launched a search for the two remaining robbers in the area of Brushwood Lane and Palm Coast Parkway. K-9 units and Air One helicopter from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the search.

Thirty minutes later, both were located at 16A Brelyn Place and taken into custody.

20 year-old Antonio Hudson, who resides in New Smyrna Beach, is charged with armed burglary and aggravated assault.

16 year-old David A. Pope, who resides at 16A Brelyn Place in Palm Coast, is charged with armed burglary. He was transported to the Division of Youth Services in Daytona Beach.

A van believed used in the burglary was located in the area of 61 Brushwood Lane.

A handgun used by the suspects was located by a K-9 unit in a wooded area near 84 Brushwood Lane.

“This incident appears to be drug related,” said Sheriff Donald W. Fleming. “It is sad that these young men have chosen such a dark path so early in life.”
