St. Johns County Tax Collector Dennis W. Hollingsworth, CFC told Historic City News local reporters in St Augustine that his office will be open on the last Saturday of November after the Thanksgiving holiday for those wishing to conduct business and pay taxes.
“We are always open the last Saturday of the month, from 8:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon,” Hollingsworth said. “However, we like to make sure residents know that this service continues even on holiday weekends — especially when residents can receive a 4 percent discount by paying their taxes prior to December 1st.”
Curbside “tax payment drop-off” and a 24-hour payment drop box are available at the circular drive just east of the Tax Collector’s office. No cash will be accepted at the curbside location — either to the agent or at the drop box.
A curbside agent will be available from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Main office in St. Augustine on Wednesday November 30th.
Curbside payments are accepted in the form of check, cashier’s check or money order.
Tax bills are due through March 31, 2012, before they are considered late or delinquent. The greatest savings, a 4 percent discount, can be earned by those who pay their bills by November 30. The discount reduces by one percent each month through February 29, 2012. Payments made in March are not entitled to a discount. Penalties and interest are added to payments made after March 31.
