Historic City News found that when its time for men in North City “to get their ears lowered”, they are discovering a new location; but one with a familiar face.
Barber Vickie Lashomb opened Olde City Haircuts on November 3rd, in the Depot Plaza located on North Ponce de Leon Boulevard; next to JR Uniforms. North Beach native Max Usina says he just wants a simple haircut and finds Olde City Haircuts convenient, easy to park, get in-and-out of, and he likes the $12.00 price.
St. Augustine residents for the past seven years, Vickie and Rickie Lashomb operate the family owned business. Vickie tells Historic City News that she has been cutting hair for the past 46 years.
Rickie Lashomb also works, but he is not in the barber shop each day. He makes the commute to Jacksonville and works for the Salvation Army.
When Vickie and her husband decided it was time to open their own shop, it wasn’t the first time they had faced such an opportunity. In fact, during her career, Vickie has operated barber shops in the Florida Keys, Naples, Deland, upstate New York and Swanton, VT.
Most recently, before opening at the Depot Plaza location, Vickie cut hair at “Seems Like Olde Times” barber shop; closer to town on U.S. 1.
Considering today’s economy in St. Augustine, the Lashomb’s made a considerable investment in refitting the new shop; which was previously used by a local church organization. New plumbing, electrical service, barber fixtures, a fresh coat of paint and new carpeting make the new shop especially attractive.
With just one month to let the dust settle, Vickie is well pleased with her ability to reach not only her regular clientele, but also many new faces. “I am very thankful to my clients for making this shop such a success”, Lashomb said.
“I’m looking for another barber with a following”, Lashomb told us. There is usually only a short wait and you can often walk-right-in, but, there is room for a second chair. Interested candidates should call Vickie at (904) 501-2835 or e-mail her at vickielashomb@aol.com
Olde City Haircuts offers men’s barber cuts only and does not accept appointments. The shop is opened five days a week, except Sunday and Monday, weekdays 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Grand Opening specials are being honored through January.
