Sheriff’s Office Media Relations Officer Kevin Kelshaw reported to Historic City News this afternoon that a 25-year old man was arrested on two counts each of burglary and grand theft as well as one count of petit theft Monday evening.
Deputy C.M. Jones responded to a report of a suspicious person attempting to open car doors in a parking lot in the 400 block of S.R. 13 North, at 7:20 p.m. When the deputy arrived a short time later he observed a subject matching the description across the street from the original call and contacted him behind a restaurant according to the press release.
The subject, identified as Charles Allan Weaver, 25, unknown address, was named earlier in the day as a suspect who allegedly removed his mother’s wedding ring from her home in the 1700 block of Pitch Pine Ave. (Fruit Cove) and pawned it in Duval County.
Weaver was arrested on the grand theft charge and secured. During a search the deputy located an IPOD in the subject’s pocket that he claimed belonged to his girlfriend in Jacksonville. Further investigation revealed that the IPOD was removed from a vehicle nearby and the owner was located and positively identified the IPOD.
Weaver was booked into the County Jail where he remains in lieu of bonds totaling $21,000.
