Two St. Johns County men were arrested on burglary and other charges Monday evening, according to a media release received by Historic City News.
Media Relations Officer Kevin Kelshaw reported that the suspects, identified as Todd Allan Carter, 21, 4435 Olga St., Hastings, and Joshua Stephen Hensley, 20, 4835 Jonathan St., Hastings, were each charged with two counts each of burglary to a structure and grand theft and one count of possession of less than 20 grams of cannabis.
In addition Carter was charged with resisting arrest without violence and Hensley was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
The investigation began shortly before 12:00 a.m. when Deputy J. Kroul observed a vehicle parked on the side of the road at the intersection of Palatka Blvd. and Stycket Ave. As the deputy approached the vehicle, he observed a male subject drop a lawn mower in the ditch and flee into the woods. The second subject walked towards the deputy and was secured.
The two suspects are charged with breaking a lock to a shed that was located in the woods. They then loaded up a wheelbarrow with property from the shed and took it and a lawn mower to the vehicle when the deputy arrived. The subject who fled, identified later as Carter, was located a short time later at Hensley’s residence where he was arrested.
The owner of the shed could not be determined at the time of the arrest as the investigation continues.
