The Friends of the Southeast Branch Library announced to the St. Augustine local news desk of Historic City News that former United States Senator George McGovern will address the membership at the annual meeting today.
The public is invited to attend the meeting and presentation to be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 in the main conference room of the Southeast Branch Library.
Senator McGovern will talk about his recent book, “Abraham Lincoln,” and take questions from the audience. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing. Light refreshments will be served following the presentation.
McGovern is a native of South Dakota and part-time resident of St. Augustine.
Senator McGovern has achieved a number of impressive accomplishments that will ensure an informative and interesting presentation for those in attendance.
He holds M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in American history and political science and is a professor of history and political science, author, lecturer, first Director of the Food for Peace Program, 22-year congressman, Democratic presidential nominee, United Nations delegate, United Nations global ambassador on hunger and Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient.
Senator McGovern is the father of five and a decorated World War II pilot.
