Dorohn A. Frazier, representative from The Florida Bar, reported to the St. Johns County local news desk at Historic City News that twenty-one lawyers will be recognized for their work on behalf of poor and indigent clients, including Raven E. Sword in the Seventh Judicial Circuit.
The Seventh Judicial Circuit includes St. Johns, Flagler, Putnam and Volusia counties; Sword is an attorney at Rice & Rose Law Firm in Daytona Beach.
Sword earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Michigan in 1999 and her Juris Doctorate from George Washington University Law School in 2002.
The award ceremony will be held on January 28th at the Florida Supreme Court.
According to the announcement from Frazier, in 2008-09, Florida lawyers provided 1,545,157 hours of pro bono services to those in need and $4,443,830 to legal aid organizations.
The Florida Bar President’s Pro Bono Service Award was established in 1981. It is intended to encourage lawyers to volunteer free legal services to the poor by recognizing those who make public service commitments and to raise public awareness of the substantial volunteer services provided by Florida lawyers to those who cannot afford legal fees.
The Florida Bar President, Jesse H. Diner of Fort Lauderdale, will present the 2010 awards.
Before Sword joined the firm in 2007, she worked as a litigation associate at a very large firm, Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone, PLC, located in Detroit, Michigan. She practiced primarily in the areas of personal injury, commercial real estate, shareholder litigation, and general contract disputes.
Sword enjoys reading, exercising, spending time with family, and watching football and basketball games. She is married with one child.
