Last week, post office workers got a scare when an apparently abandoned suitcase was discovered in front of the King Street entrance to their building; located at 99 King Street.
Just before 5:00 Friday afternoon, St. Augustine Police Officer Michal Ochkie responded to a call by a postal employee who first noticed the suspicious suitcase.
Deputies from the St Johns County Bomb Squad arrived on the scene and assisted Police by using a detonation device to open the suitcase.
After it was determined safe, law enforcement officers inspected the contents of the suitcase which contained woman’s clothing.
Community Affairs Officer Barbara Clifford of the St. Augustine Police Department reports that the owner of the suitcase or how it came to be at the post office remains unknown.
