Family of five escape midnight fire
Historic City News received a report that a family of five was forced out of their mobile home after an early morning fire rendered the double-wide uninhabitable; according to Lt. Jeremy Robshaw.
St Johns County Fire Rescue responded to the residential structure fire in the 2900 block of Green Acres Road Extension just after 12:00 a.m. this morning.
Upon arrival, firefighters found five occupants safely evacuated from the structure and light smoke showing from the eaves and roof.
First responders began a search of the interior of the structure and extinguishment of active flames located beneath the home. The fire was declared under control in approximately 20 minutes.
Fire damages were contained to the underside of the mobile home and interior wall structure, Robshaw told reporters. The remaining portion of the home, including the attic and living space, sustained smoke and minor water damage.
The occupants of the home, 2 adults and 3 children, were provided assistance from the American Red Cross.
Robshaw reported that there were no injuries during this incident.
Fire investigators are currently trying to determine the cause of the blaze.
