On April 24 St Johns County sheriff’s deputies and traffic homicide investigators responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of CR-210 West and St Johns Parkway involving an impaired driver and four teenagers who suffered serious and life threatening injuries.
During the investigation of the collision, authorities determined that 38 year-old Brian Reynolds Peters, who resides at 6950 Garden Street in Jacksonville, was westbound on CR-210 and ran a red light at the intersection with St Johns Parkway.
Peters, who was driving his Chevrolet 3500 van, stuck a 2010 Chrysler sedan with four teenaged occupants as it turned onto CR-210.
At the time of the crash, the driver of the victim vehicle, 19 year-old Lauren R. Penney of St Johns, was transported to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center with serious injuries.
Two of the passengers, identified as Dylan D. Dodson, 17, St. Johns, and Jennifer A. Hawkinson, 19, Orange Park, sustained life threatening injuries and were taken to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center and Orange Park Medical Center, respectively.
The fourth passenger, Jessica Chamberland, 18, St. Johns, was transported to Baptist South Hospital with minor injuries.
Peters was also transported from the crime scene to Baptist South Hospital; where a toxicology examination revealed that Peters’ blood alcohol content was 0.274 — over three times the legal limit.
At the conclusion of the investigation, warrants for Peters’ arrest were obtained. Peters is charged with three counts of DUI with serious injury, one count of DUI with injury, two counts of DUI with property damage, and one count each of DUI and possession of drugs and paraphernalia.
Peters was arrested yesterday evening at his residence by agents of the US Marshal Service, assisted by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. He was booked into the Duval County Jail on bonds totaling $36,500.
