First gopher tortoise conservation workshop

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission informed local Historic City News reporters in St Augustine that they will conduct regional workshops to present information on the management plan revisions and permitting guidelines for gopher tortoises.

The goal of these workshops is to identify ways local governments can participate in protecting one of Florida’s threatened species. In addition, the FWC will discuss financial incentives available for local governments.

The first regional workshop is being held in northeast Florida next Friday, August 3.

Northeast Region Public Information Coordinator, Joy M Hill, told Historic City News that representatives from St Johns, Flagler and neighboring counties are encouraged to attend. The workshop is free, but registration is required, as space is limited.

If you are planning to attend, the meeting will convene at 2:00 p.m. and continue until 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 3 at the Flagler County Agriculture Extension Office; located at 150 Sawgrass Road in Bunnell.
