The local St. Augustine news desk has learned that Wednesday night, Police Officer Michael Linsky made an arrest while responding to a call at the Kangaroo Store located at 70 Masters Drive.
The clerk reported to police that, while inside the store, 35 year-old Jeffery Gibby tried to conceal a can of beer in his pants. The clerk followed Gibby out of the store and told him to stop. Gibby refused to stop and entered his vehicle; a red, two door Honda.
As the clerk was calling the police, Gibby reportedly backed his vehicle into the clerk’s right knee. When asked, Gibby told Linsky that he backed into the clerk because, “He would not move out of my way.”
Enroute to the call, Linsky observed Gibby driving the vehicle as he turned onto Evergreen Ave from Francis Street. When Linsky activated his emergency lights to stop the red Honda, Gibby turned into a grassy field and attempted to flee on foot.
Linsky was able to catch up to Gibby and took him into custody.
Community Affairs Officer Barbara Clifford of the St. Augustine Police Department reports that a computer check revealed that Gibby was driving on an invalid license. Gibby was charged with retail theft, resisting arrest without violence and aggravated battery.
