Communications Director Miki Kristina Gilloon invited Historic City News readers to attend a free open house event to learn more about the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind being held October 3 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on campus in the Kirk Auditorium.
The event will feature performances by students of the Blind Department’s Outta Sight Band, and students from the Deaf Department’s Dance Troupe will perform a show in American Sign Language.
“Visitors will have the opportunity to learn more about the only school of its type in Florida,” Gilloon told reporters. “This is a great opportunity for our community members to see the outstanding educational programs and services we offer our students.”
Seating is limited and reservations are required for this event. Please contact Rick Coleman, Parent Services Information Specialist, by calling (904) 827-2227.
The activities will also include an Orientation and Mobility demonstration.
For those who cannot visit the school during the open house, or for families with deaf, hard-of-hearing, blind, or visually impaired children who are interested in visiting the school, tailored educational tours can be arranged.
