Bohemian Revolutionists Exhibition

Local St. Johns County reporters for Historic City News have learned that an opening reception will be held on Thursday, May 20th at 7:00 p.m. to honor the work of five graduating fine art students from the Florida School of the Arts.

This year’s participants are fine art graduates Breanna Aguilar, Kristian Champagne, Stephanie Edwards, Brian Dillon and Donna King. Aguilar will also oversee the exhibit as the student gallery director.

Aguilar said the show, entitled “Bohemian Revolutionists Exhibition,” reflects not only the artists’ individual styles but also that of the group as a whole. “We dedicate our minds around changing conformity and systematic structure to free passionate expression,” she said, adding that each of the artists exhibit Bohemian qualities of grasping love, beauty, truth and freedom. “We are revolutionists trying to change the suffering art economy of the 21st century,” she said.

Aguilar promises the exhibit to be exciting, memorable and entertaining. “Our main goal was to show people just what effect art can have on your soul and how we express ourselves through our work,” she said. The exhibit opening will include four “live pieces of art,” which will further demonstrate the Bohemian theme. Aguilar said the graduates wanted the exhibit to be filled with wonders, a show to be remembered for years to come.

Florida School of the Arts’ visual arts program directs students to fully comprehend, use and manipulate the materials, techniques and procedures of the visual arts through drawing, printmaking, graphic design, illustration and photography.

The exhibits will be on display through June 4th in the Florida School of the Arts main gallery, located on the Palatka Campus of St. Johns River Community College. Gallery hours are Monday – Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
