Supervisor of Elections Vicky Oakes announced to Historic City News that her office has kicked off their annual voter education program at the high schools in St Johns County — designed to inform local students about the importance of voting.
Today the program commenced with an event at Pedro Menendez High School.
“Students are eligible to pre-register to vote at 16-years of age,” Oakes told Historic City News reporters. “When they turn 18-years-old, they receive a voter registration card and are eligible and ready to vote.”
Oakes explained that her office is still hearing from schools and scheduling the future events at this time. “Our goal is to visit every high school in the county — both public and private,” Oakes said.
The Supervisor will be listing the dates on the events calendar of their website.
