Chamber president Kirk Wendland informed local Historic City News reporters that on Thursday, May 30, our elected state legislative and congressional representatives will provide a public policy update to members and guests during a breakfast forum to be held from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
Florida’s annual 60-day Legislative Session concluded on May 3rd. The 2013 Legislative Update, presented by the St Johns County Chamber of Commerce, will be held at the Sawgrass Marriott Resort and Conference Center, Champion Ballrooms B and C, 1000 PGA Tour Boulevard in Ponte Vedra Beach.
“We have confirmed speakers including Congressman Ron DeSantis, State Senator John Thrasher, State Representative Doc Renuart, State Representative Travis Hutson and Brad Swanson, who is Vice President of Strategic Partnerships for the Florida Chamber of Commerce,” Communications Manager Beau Phillips told reporters. “Chamber leaders and business executives representing key industries in St Johns County will also be in attendance and available.”
Congressman Ron DeSantis, whose district includes St Johns County, will provide a policy update from the United States Capitol. Later in the day, DeSantis will attend an open house at his St Augustine Office beginning at 4:00 p.m. and then will be returning to Ponte Vedra Beach for a Town Hall Meeting from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Players Senior Community Center located at 175 Landrum Road.
Florida Chamber Vice President Brad Swanson will offer an overview of the key issues in the Legislative Session impacting Florida businesses and our economic climate. State Senator Thrasher and State Representatives Renuart and Hutson will discuss key issues taken up during the Legislative Session and bills which they championed.
“This is a terrific opportunity for St Johns County’s business community to receive a report directly from their state and federal representatives,” stated Carol Saviak, Government Relations Manager for the St Johns County Chamber of Commerce. “The Chamber is pleased to host this special event and public policy forum.”
This policy-centered event is reflective of the key business advocacy focus for the St Johns County Chamber of Commerce.
“St Johns County businesses have excellent representation at the state and federal level,” Saviak explained. “our lawmakers consistently support pro-business legislation.”
Saviak points to the 2013 Legislative Report Card, recently released by the Florida Chamber of Commerce, which scores the voting records of state lawmakers based on a 1 to 100 point scale.
“Our entire St Johns County delegation received straight A’s this year – which reflects their commitment to policies that support growth in our local and state economy,” Saviak observed.

The St Johns County Chamber of Commerce’s 2013 Legislative Update is open to the general public. Cost to attend is $25 for Chamber members and $30 for non-Chamber members. Admission includes breakfast and the educational program.
