Historic City News has been informed that the Bridge of Lions 5K Run, set for Saturday, July 27 at 7:30 a.m., will necessitate brief traffic re-routing along Avenida Menendez, the Bridge of Lions, and on streets throughout Davis Shores on the north side of Anastasia Boulevard.
Scheduled to start at the north end of Avenida Menendez near the Castillo de San Marcos, participants will run south on Avenida Menendez using the northbound lane and cross the Bridge of Lions during which time bridge will be closed to all vehicular and boat traffic.
The race then continues north on Gerado Street, west on Arpeika Avenue, north on St Augustine Boulevard, east-south on Inlet Drive, west on Arpieka Avenue, south on Arredondo Avenue, east on Oglethorpe Boulevard, south on Comares Avenue, west on Flagler Boulevard, north on Zorayda Avenue, west on Alcazar Street to the finish line at Oglethorpe Park.
Police are expecting traffic along Avenida Menendez and the Bridge of Lions should return to normal by 8:00 a.m. and the entire race concluded by 9:00 a.m. To avoid delays, the public is advised to avoid these areas during the race.
There will be free parking at the Castillo de San Marcos until 10:00 a.m., or at the finish line in Davis Shores.
There is no transportation provided for runners between the start and finish. However, it is only about a half mile walk when taking a direct route. Many participants prefer to park at the finish line and walk to the start, prior to the race.
