Thursday, October 17th through Sunday, October 20th, the City of St Augustine will offer complimentary parking for motorcycles in designated areas of downtown to accommodate guests of Biketoberfest being held in Daytona Beach this week.
As they have over the past 21-year run of the event, thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts participating in Biketoberfest will make day trips to St Augustine and may choose to stay in hotels in St Johns County.
“The designated parking area, delineated by signs, encompasses all of Cathedral Place and the north side of King Street — between Charlotte Street and Cordova Street,” Public Affairs Director Paul Williamson told local reporters today. “The designated area will be available for motorcycle parking only.”
Daytona Beach hosts the fun-filled, entertaining event that attracts motorcycle enthusiasts from throughout North America and Europe. Festivities include street rallies, bike shows, racing, concerts, charity rides, expos, seminars and celebrity appearances.
Williamson said that the city’s experience with Biketoberfest has been good; and, by concentrating the free parking area around the plaza, the area tends to become an unofficial display of a wide variety of motorcycles from around the country — making it an attraction to St Augustine visitors.
“The amount of parking will be adjusted each day by the St Augustine Police Department based on demand,” Mark Samson, public information officer reported. “The designated area is the only area where motorcycles may park free of charge.”
Williamson also noted that motorcyclists who utilize the designated complimentary parking tend to park multiple motorcycles in a single automobile-sized space; freeing other parking spaces for vehicles.
