St Augustine Police Corporal, Jim Gimmarinaro, was the first officer on the scene at a residence in the 200 block of Spring Street about 11:00 a.m. yesterday morning; where a physical altercation had been reported according to information received by Historic City News.
Police say 22-year-old Timothy Tyrone Jackson Jr, whose address was reported to be 837 Scheidel Way in St Augustine, burglarized the Spring Street residence and battered his former domestic partner; who lives there.
Before police arrived, Jackson fled westbound through the backyard. After a few minutes of driving in the area, police located Jackson behind another residence on North Whitney Street.
The victim recently broke up with Jackson and was inside the house with her sister. When they stepped outside, they were confronted with Jackson standing near the door. The victim and witness attempted to close the door; according to the incident report, Jackson overpowered them, threw the victim to the floor and punched her in the ear.
Although both received minor injuries during the struggle, the victim’s sister declined to press criminal charges against Jackson for the attack.
Jackson told police that he stopped at the residence intending to speak to the victim, but, when he heard the two inside talking about his son in a derogatory way, “he became very upset”. Jackson admitted that he threw the victim on the floor inside the house, but denies hitting her. Because the victim was recently dating Jackson, and they had been living together as a couple in the past, Gimmarinaro said the crime qualifies as “domestic violence”.
Jackson was placed under arrest and transported to the St Johns County Detention Facility at the Neil J Perry Criminal Justice Complex without further incident. He was charged with burglary, a first-degree felony, and battery, a first-degree misdemeanor. He was released at 2:11 p.m. today after his first appearance and after posting an $11,000 bond.
