Local St. Augustine reporters at Historic City News have learned that early Sunday morning, about 3:45 a.m., Police Officer Matt Mitchell responded to a single vehicle collision on Anastasia Boulevard.
A 1989 Acura was traveling North on Anastasia Boulevard when the vehicle left the roadway and hit the curb near City of St. Augustine Fire Station 2.
The driver of the vehicle, 23 year-old Joseph Edward Brown, continued to travel in the grass and hit a “Lighthouse Museum” sign, about 150 feet away from the original point of impact, according to police.
As he continued to travel across Red Cox Road, Brown also hit a light pole, a power pole, a tree and the southwest corner of Fire Station 2.
Brown was transported to Flagler Hospital for evaluation. The Fire Station’s building had approx. $5000 of damage. The signs estimated replace cost is $1000.
Community Affairs Officer Barbara Stevens of the St. Augustine Police Department reports that Brown was cited for driving with a suspended license and careless driving.
