Historic City News has learned that two teenage girls, 16-year-old Alexa M. Almstead and 17-year-old Isabelle S. Childre, fell from the bed of a moving 2004 Chevy pickup truck early Saturday evening; sending the teens to the hospital in serious condition.
Almstead and Childre were riding in the open bed of the truck that was driven by another 16-year-old girl whose name was not released. The driver in the single-vehicle crash was not injured. Charges are pending results from the investigation.
The crash occurred about 6:00 p.m. in the area of Gilda Drive and Christina Drive in St Augustine Shores.
Both passengers suffered serious head injuries from their falls and both were taken by air ambulance to UF Health Jacksonville Trauma Center. Alexa was listed in critical condition and Isabelle was listed in serious condition as of the last update.
