Melissa Nelson, executive director of United Way of St. Johns County, is looking for about 75 volunteers to help evaluate funding requests made by United Way Partner Agencies.
Programs supported by United Way focus on the building blocks that lead to a good quality of life – education, health and income. Working in teams comprised of 5-7 individuals, volunteers will spend about 4 hours at each applicant’s location; studying and evaluating the funding requests made by the various non-profit partner agencies.
“Team members will tour, meet staff, quiz board members, study audits, and vet outcomes,” Nelson told local Historic City News reporters. “Their goal is to guarantee that every dollar allocated to a program will have a personal and real impact here in St. Johns County.”
The Community Impact Fund Allocation Process, conducted during April and May, is an essential part of the procedure that is used to distribute well over $1,000,000 that has been raised by the organization in recent months.
This year, just as in each of the past 57 years, those funds will be distributed to worthy programs in the community.
Many of these dollars will be directly leveraged, by partner agencies, to bring additional funds into the county through grant monies and other programs multiplying the financial impact.
Residents of St. Johns County are invited to be part of this open and transparent process.
No prior experience or expertise is necessary, just a heart for the needs of the community and the ability to contribute the needed time.
