Guest Column: Florida Veterans Hall of Fame

Army National Guard, Retired
St Augustine, FL
As this year’s chairman of the Florida Veterans Hall of Fame Council, I am honored to announce to Historic City News readers that we are currently accepting nominations for the third annual class of inductees into the Florida Veterans Hall of Fame.
We are privileged to recognize and honor veterans for their leadership and civic contributions to the Sunshine State. Names honoring selected inductees are commemorated on a plaque in the Capitol Rotunda in Tallahassee.
Nominees will be chosen based on established selection criteria; including significant contributions to the State of Florida through civic, business, public service, or other pursuits.
The nomination period is open until May 30, 2015. With so many deserving veterans, we hope to receive many nominees for consideration for this year’s class. Anyone is permitted to nominate a military veteran by submitting a nomination packet that can be downloaded from floridaveteranshalloffame.org
- The Florida Veterans Hall of Fame Council is a seven-member advisory panel responsible for accepting nominations to be considered.
- In selecting our nominees, the council gives preference to veterans who were either born in Florida or adopted Florida as their home state.
- Our recommended list of nominees is transmitted to the Florida Department of Veterans Affairs, who will forward the nominations to Governor Rick Scott and his Cabinet, who make the final selections.
The Florida Legislature established the Florida Veterans Hall of Fame to honor up to 20 military veterans each year and recognize them for their post-military service to the state. Since 2013, eleven Florida veterans have been inducted into the Florida Veterans Hall of Fame.
