Local Historic City News reporters caught up to St. Johns County Sheriff David B. Shoar and former St. Augustine City Attorney Jim Wilson this morning while they were attending the Legal Update Seminar going on this week at the Casa Monica Hotel in St. Augustine.
The Florida Association of Police Attorneys are sponsoring this continuing education seminar which will update its participants on topics ranging from proving the presence and significance of “drug odors” on seized currency to common ethical issues confronting government attorneys.
St. Johns County Tax Collector Dennis W. Hollingsworth was also in this morning’s session which covers decisions affecting criminal justice during the 2009-2010 Supreme Court term and a Florida case law update for law enforcement agencies and legal issues related to terrorism initiatives.
Tomorrow, Tallahassee Attorney Marc W. Dunbar will introduce the topic of modern gambling technologies and will discuss the challenges with enforcement of Florida’s gambling laws.
In this afternoon’s session, and again tomorrow, presenters will cover legal developments and significant, but often overlooked, areas of police liability.
