Jorge Aguilar informed local reporters that a mock “Oil Spill” and rally will be held this Saturday by officials and anti-fracking advocates at Friendship Fountain, and Historic City News readers are invited to participate.
Participants will be calling on State Senator Rob Bradley and his committee to be “heroes” early next week when a bill to ban fracking is being heard in the Florida legislature. Supporters hope Senator Bradley will champion the bill in his committee to ban fracking.
The event will rally anti-fracking activists and supporters from Northeast Florida in front of a mock oil spill at Friendship Fountain, located at 1015 Museum Circle in Jacksonville, on Saturday, February 3rd, 2018 at 10:30 a.m., and culminates in a march along Southbank Riverwalk.
Jacksonville Councilman Jim Love, City of Fernandina Beach Mayor Johnny Miller, St. Johns Riverkeeper Lisa Rinaman, Food & Water Watch, Oceana, Floridians Against Fracking, and residents, are expected to participate in the rally and march.
Saturday’s activities are part of efforts in-district and statewide in Florida calling to ban fracking and to bring attention to the ongoing confusion about whether the state will be part of any federal offshore drilling plan.
