The Historic St. Augustine Area Council of the St. Johns County Chamber Of Commerce reported to Historic City News that their members were given the opportunity to learn about Home Again St. Johns — a project focused on education about homeless issues.
On Friday, November 12, 2010, Mike Davis spoke to the Chamber members during their meeting at the Prosperity Bank Community Center. Davis explained the difference between panhandlers and homeless individuals and stressed that panhandlers were not necessarily homeless.
The Home Again St. Johns organization is focused on educating the community, to help explain to tourists, and, visitors, that instead of donating to panhandlers — they should give at donation points that will collect money to help the homeless.
These donation points are still being determined.
Home Again St. Johns wants to bring the business community together to help the homeless with food and housing.
The meeting was sponsored by The Spice and Tea Exchange of St. Augustine.
