Community Affairs Officer Barbara Stevens reported to Historic City News that, over a period of three weeks, police have responded to investigate the occurrence of graffiti vandalism at 34 different locations in the Downtown and Lincolnville area.
The property damage, so far, runs into thousands of dollars. The St. Augustine Police Department is asking Historic City News readers for their help identifying those responsible.
Stevens told Historic City News that businesses walls, private residences, sidewalks, vehicles and roadways, have all been painted with various symbols and phrases.
Just after 2:00 a.m. Thursday, 22 year-old Scott Anthony Hill and 20 year-old Fang Chin Tsai from Jacksonville were booked in the St. Johns County Detention Facility; after St. Augustine Police officers caught them spray painting fish symbols on outdoor walls near Hypolita Street and Charlotte Street.
According to police reports in those arrests, the color of the paint used by Hill and Tsai, matched that of other graffiti police officers found on walls and buildings at other locations downtown.
If anyone has information that would aid police in the investigation, please call the St Augustine Crime Stopper Tip Line at (904) 209-3482.
“Let’s keep our historic neighborhoods clean,” Stevens said.
