Man killed on what was to be last work day

Historic City News has learned that a St. Augustine man has been killed over the weekend in a crane collapse at Jaxport.

58 year-old Anthony F. Roberts who lived on Linda Lake Lane in St. Augustine was helping to dismantle a retired crane when it crashed onto the cab of the crane he was operating on the 2800 Block of Talleyrand Avenue.

A Jaxport spokesperson reported that Roberts was an employee of a contractor that was brought in to dismantle the retired crane.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating.
